Week 1

First few days of media class, excited for the semester

- final project was introduced (we're making a crime documentary !!)

Week 2

Together with the class, we went through multiple crime documentary intros. We researched on aspects of crime documentary like what makes it suspenseful, what type of sounds or edits are put in, and things like the characters getting interviewed. We also learned about what conforms and subverts to conventions. So far, everything has been smooth.

Week 3

This week we confirmed on our groupings and started on the statement of intent for the crime documentary. It was pretty fun working together to come up with the plot and story of our crime doc, we also went and asked our friends outside of class to see if they would be interested in acting for our documentary.

To do list

- finish statement of intent

- confirm where we want the setting of the crime to be at

- ask around to see if more friends would be interested in acting for us

Week 4

This week we did the topic of power and media and when our teacher wasn't in class due to school competitions, we did our script and storyboard for the documentary. The location scout and risk assessment is still ongoing, we might just take a few pictures and play around with the camera this weekend. We had asked a friend outside of this class if he wanted to help us with acting and he has already confirmed he can, which should help with our struggle of who's acting as who.

to do list

- get started on location scout

- start practicing and playing around with the camera and acting (get used to filming/acting)

Week 5

This week me and my team worked on our documentary even more, we made a filming schedule that we will be using to plan out when we're doing certain scenes. This saturday (24th aug) we have confirmed on our first day of meeting up for the documentary, however one of our teammates Rachelle sadly can't come. We will just be playing around with the camera and test out audios just so we can start properly filming scenes the next time we meet. Our storyboard and script are still a work in progress, but so far things aren't going badly.

to do list

- continue on the storyboard and script (for the team)

- mess around with camera settings until the quality is to the team's liking (for me, since we're using my camera)

Week 7

This week we had two project days (wednesday and friday, instead of only on wednesday). We developed the script even more and started editing and planning out how the scenes would actually play out. We have a schedule to meet up at my house on sunday to film the rest of the scenes, and hopefully get some editing done afterwards.

to do list

- film !!!

Week 8

This week we started filming every scene we had and started writing up reflections. The editing process is taking longer than expected, but since our teacher postponed the submission to monday it gave us more time to finish up on things we haven't finished

Self Reflection: The weekly progress wasn't of much use to me, but it was really helpful when I needed to go back on what I did the previous week. I had my own version of the to-do list in a seperate document and in my phone so I didn't use this for it, but back reading to look back on what I did and accomplished the previous week did help when it came to having to look back on my progress so far.
